New Column Alert: Allie Has Questions

Hello, everyone, I’m Greta and this is a blog post about introductions. It is probably only fair that I kick things off by introducing myself: my name is Greta, I’m 22, my favorite color is green, and today I’m launching a new blog series. I want to introduce you to this series, but first you’ll have to meet Allie.

When I told Allie to give me three adjectives to describe herself, she responded: “I am in a very busy Asian market, let me get back to u,” and then texted me later “perceptive and practical” (this was conditional upon my answering the question first, and I decided upon “righteous, solitary, manic,” but am open to criticism about it). I agree with Allie’s self-analysis, and would add: deliberate, insightful, and quick.

Allie is quite smart (another one of her defining characteristics), and she has questions. In a new aptly-named column, Allie Has Questions, I’m going to answer them. Here’s the thing: No person can know everything about social justice, reproductive/sexual health, and feminism. All of those are such expansive terms! It is literally impossible to keep up to date with everything going on.

The point of this column is to clear up the lingering questions surrounding big cultural talking points––questions like: Harvey Weinstein is canceled, obviously, but what does it actually mean to cancel someone in real life, and how does that intersect with restorative justice? What wave of feminism are we in? Having herpes “isn’t a big deal,” but also, what’s the difference between the two types again?

Assuming the best any of us can do is keep more-or-less afloat of most things that are going on, I’m here to clear up any remnant questions that may still linger. I like to research, and I like to explain––so I’ll do the work for you.

Our Allie has written in already with a few questions she’s been thinking about, but anyone can write in to this column with a question. Yes, you could become Allie––write in your question at this link, and your question could appear in a post under the pseudonym of “Allie.”

We’ll post the first Allie Has Questions soon. I can’t wait to correspond with you, “Allie.”

Love,

Greta
